In 2009, I achieved one of, which I felt like at the time, my greatest achievements. I got accepted into North Eastern Ohio University Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. I was so estatic to get accepted to a doctorate program. I barely felt qualified. Nonetheless, I made it, SHIT I wasn't complaining. After 2 years of struggling to obtain a doctorate in pharmacy, I left pharmacy school to complete my bachelor's of science, which I obtained in 2012. I didn't obtain my doctorate but I always search for lessons in situations that others would call failures, and this is what I learned.
Have you ever attended an event over dressed? Or walked into a room and you felt black? I ain't talking about race although, I was a double minority in the program, I'm talking age and responsibilities. I was, and still am a non-traditional student. I remember everyday, walking into my doctorate program classroom at North Eastern Ohio University Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine and feeling defeated. LOL. The program was cool, but the students were very different. I had to miss class for my children's doctors appointments, or if they were sick and all my money was to care for my family, they aint have those problems. They couldn't relate. I don't blame them, I'm just stating facts. They had more study time, a better home life, more money, better education and the list goes on.
I began to think less of myself, I gained 40lbs, all I did was study and study. I studied so much I barely spent time with my children, my bed, or my friends but I swear I failed so many of the tests that I spent hours studying for, I was going insane.
What I started to notice is that other students had study groups and other students they related to. Not me. I was a lone soldier. They would try to include me in groups but my life seemed to get in the way everytime.
After it was all said and done, there was something about that doctorate program that took me forever to learn, I could have never fit into that community, and that was okay!
